At the very beginning of my blogging journey, I got inspired by two of my favorite bloggers – Harsh Agarwal, Owner of ShoutMeLoud.com from India & Istiak Rayhan, Founder of RoadToBlogging.com from Bangladesh.
Istiak Rayhan is a popular blogger, and his blog got featured on several blogs like Problogger, CodeInWP, etc. Personally, he is very helpful and loves to encourage newbies.
I am a big fan of him, and I always read his latest posts. His writing style is really awesome 🙂
Recently I’ve asked him some real life blogging questions, and he has answered all of the questions. Here is the interview of Istiak Rayhan.
QcBlogging: Can you please tell our readers about yourself and your blog?
Hi, I am Istiak Rayhan. I am a blogger and an internet marketer. And I am the founder of RoadToBlogging.com. I’ve been blogging for last four years. So far it’s an amazing journey.
Talking about RoadToBlogging, it’s a blog for bloggers that aims to make bloggers’ journey easier.
It covers several topics like Blogging, SEO, Social Media, WordPress, Affiliate Marketing, Email Marketing, Make Money Blogging, etc.
While most of the blogs talk about what to do, we talk about how to do it efficiently.
QcBlogging: How did you first started blogging & where did you get the inspiration?
Back in 2012, I used to work for a micro freelancing site. Some of the works were to publish posts and give links to other sites.
For this, I created my first site on Weebly.com. Unfortunately, Weebly deleted the site because of some TOS issues.
Then I created another site on WordPress.com. That site also got banned for the same kind of issues.
Later I decided to start a self-hosted WordPress blog. And I created TechThumbs.com. I mainly started this blog to share tech stuff.
At that time, I was not aware of the term “Blogging” or “Problogging”. I just created a site to share my techie knowledge with others. And I monetized it with AdSense.
While running TechThumbs, I learned many new things about Blogging, SEO, WordPress, Web hosting, etc. And I started sharing those topics on my blog.
After running the tech blog for 3-4 months, I realized that it was not a tech blog anymore. It became a blog about blogging related stuff.
Then I decided to change the name to Road To Blogging dot com. This is how my blogging journey started.
I was mainly inspired by Harsh Agrawal of ShoutMeLoud.
Finding his blog is one of the best things happened to me.
One day I discovered his income report, and it really amazed me how much money he made just by doing blogging. His income report made me believe that making money is possible.
QcBlogging: How many blogs do you have and how do you maintain these blogs?
I, myself maintain these two blogs. I don’t have any writers I write all of my posts.
And my younger brother takes care of the designing and development part.
QcBlogging: Which blogs do you follow regularly?
I follow several blogs. Here are few of them.
QcBlogging: What are the best techniques to drive traffic to a blog?
At RoadToBlogging, most of the traffic come from search engines, followed by social networking sites.
SEO is the best way to drive traffic to a blog. But it takes time. You need to be patient.
When it comes to SEO, I always recommend taking care of On Page SEO. While backlink is still the number one ranking factor, but it’s not easy to build good quality backlinks.
What you can do is, build quality content and do proper On Page SEO. You will earn backlinks from other blogs.
For new blogs, blog commenting is the best way to drive traffic.
QcBlogging: What do you do to save your blog from spammers, hackers & Search Engines Penalty?
Spammers – I use Akismet.
Hackers – I take regular backups. Currently, I am using ManageWP for backup. But I am planning to use VaultPress.
Search Engines Penalty – I write long and original content. And check backlinks regularly.
QcBlogging: How to Increase AdSense and Affiliate Income?
As I am not using AdSense on my blog, I am not aware of latest tricks and tips of AdSense income. Most of my earnings come from affiliate marketing. So here are some tips to increase affiliate income.
- Find out your most popular posts in term of traffic and monetize those with affiliate products/services.
- Declutter your money making posts.
- Write affiliate sales generating posts like review posts, comparison posts, list posts, etc.
- Offer discounts to your visitors.
- Use “Call to Action” buttons.
QcBlogging: Do you Share White Hat SEO Techniques That Really Works?
Yes, I do. And I only use White Hat SEO techniques for my blog. Here are some of the techniques that work great for me.
- Write catchy post title. CTR plays a great role in ranking. I’ve experimented it on my blog and it worked.
- Write engaging contents. If you someone lands your site from Google and leaves it quickly, it sends a signal to Google that the page is not relevant for the search terms.
- Make your site faster. No one likes a slow loading site. Not even search bots.
- Make your site looks simple yet attractive. It will increase the user engagement. And it might help you in getting backlinks.
- Build relationship with other bloggers to get backlinks.
QcBlogging: Is blogging your profession or just a hobby?
Blogging is not a hobby anymore. Now I am a full-time blogger. But I never call myself a “ProBlogger”. I don’t know why. However, I have a huge respect for the word “Problogger”.
QcBlogging: What was the worst day of your blogging journey?
In 2014, I got hit by Google Panda. It was pretty scary. I lost almost 40% traffic on that update. So you can call it the worst day of blogging.
However, I was able to recover it quickly. The amazing thing is, I’ve learned a lot about conversion optimization at that time. It helped me to keep my earning stable with low traffic.
QcBlogging: Could you share your first 3 months blogging experience?
It was amazing. I was a proud owner of a tech site. I was just sharing my knowledge with others without thinking about SEO.
A lot of things happened in first three months of blogging like getting the first comment, making few dollars from AdSense etc.
QcBlogging: Please Share two important posts from your blog.
- A Step-by-Step Guide to Monetizing Your Blog With Affiliate Marketing

QcBlogging: What do you think about QcBlogging?
You are doing good. Your contents are good. Just one suggestion for you. Make your blog header simple.
QcBlogging: What is your message for my readers?
As your main readers are bloggers, here are some tips for bloggers.
- Don’t write everything under the sun. Choose a niche.
- Be real. You don’t need to write about Problogging when you are a newbie blogger.
- Try to monetize your blog ASAP. It will help you to find the monetization way that suits your blog.
- Connect with other bloggers. They are not your rivals.
- Focus on one blog at a time.
- And always remember “The journey is the reward.”
